A Partnership to improve learning levels-
The Twelve (Tribal) Village Development Program – Jhagadia and Valia
Jhagadia Industries Association and Rotary Club of Ankleshwar in consultation with Collector of Bharuch, put education as an important area to work on, for optimum growth. With Pratham as a partner in the program, on July 3, 2013, Collector Bharuch launched the program at VatariaPrimary school, Valia , for 12 villages in Valia and Jhagadia blocks of Ankleshwar.
According to ASER 20131 only 67.4% of children in Std. 3 in government schools in India cannot read a Std 1 level text. 58.9% of Std. 5 children cannot read a Std. 2 level text. State governments have noticed these alarming observations and, as directed by the Planning Commission’s Twelfth Five Plan, are taking the initiative to focus on learning level improvement. Without being able to read, a child cannot make progress in the education system – taking this as a goal to work, JIA set up the Village Development program.
A team of enthusiastic members from JIA and Rotary have kept the interest alive by seeking weekly updates on the program activity, monthly meetings for understanding the activities and tracking.
Program progress have been examples of active engagement , which has encouraged the Pratham team and the participating schools and community.
